Happy International Women’s Day!
I’m lucky to have so many strong, creative, intelligent, funny, and kind women in my life… including my two daughters. I’m also lucky that the purpose-driven, design, innovation, and education ecosystems (where I spend my time) are full of amazing women who I have the privilege of collaborating with and learning from every day.
#IWD is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The theme Accelerate Action is a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
International Women’s Day has been around since 1911 when over a million people in Europe attended rallies in support – but 2025 is 30 years since the UN’s Beijing Declaration which transformed the women’s and girls’ rights agenda in terms of legal protection, access to services, youth engagement. The international day was formally adopted by the UN in 1977.
The UN theme this year is: “March Forward” “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment“.
A few different themes in play but they’re aligned. We’ve made a lot of progress, but we still have plenty to do. Gender equality is better for all of us!
