SydDT #74: Design Thinking in Social Enterprise Startups

SydDT #74: Design Thinking in Social Enterprise Startups

We were lucky to have Naomi Tarszisz (Founder & CEO of rePlated), Andrew Akib (Co-founder & CEO of Maslow), and Frances Atkins (Co-founder & Director of givvable) share a bit about their social enterprise startup journeys with key insights and lessons.

We kicked off with Naomi and I having a fireside chat, followed by Andrew giving a talk. I then had another fireside chat with Frances… and we wrapped up with me hosting a panel with Naomi, Andrew, and Frances. I loved hearing more about their experiences.

Thanks to everyone who came and made it a fun night! Couldn’t make it or just want to relive it? You can watch it now.

This meetup was part of Spark Festival 2022 – a celebration of entrepreneurship everywhere. It’s awesome to see another full program for this year (12-27 October).

Spark Fest is so much more than an annual event covering all things startup, innovation, and entrepreneurship. It’s a grassroots movement of people all working towards the common goal of creating and supporting the thriving, tech-based ventures that will underpin Australia’s future prosperity. Check out the rest of the amazing events across Australia.

A huge thanks to Thoughtworks for hosting and sponsoring this event and Dynamic4!

Speakers

Naomi Tarszisz

Founder & CEO, rePlated

Naomi packed in a perfectly enjoyable career leading digital transformation for brands like Qantas & Westpac because she wanted to live with purpose. It led her to startup rePlated which is looking to fix the problem of single-use around takeaway food. They are currently a top B Corp for Environment and their first product, the rePlated Mealbox, recently won Gold in the Good Design Awards.

It’s been a long journey through product development and she is passionate about great design, the circular economy, local manufacture, and supporting women on their startup journey.

Andrew Akib

Co-founder & CEO, Maslow

After a friend was paralysed by a traumatic injury, Andrew left his career as a product & strategy consultant to help his friend manage care and therapy from home. From there – Maslow was born.

Maslow makes it easy for people with disabilities, the elderly, and families to manage care at home. Although created for one friend, it has since grown to support thousands of Australian & NZ families.

Andrew is passionate about using technology to create equal access to healthcare, education, and the arts.

Frances Atkins

Co-founder & Director, givvable

Covid

We’re obviously still in the middle of a pandemic and attendance means complying with NSW State Gov and venue covid restrictions. If you’re not feeling well on the day please stay at home.
