SydDT #86: World Interaction Design Day 2023: Ethics, Equity, +Responsibility

SydDT #86: World Interaction Design Day 2023: Ethics, Equity, +Responsibility

Happy World Interaction Design Day!

The theme this year is Ethics, Equity, +Responsibility. Tonight we (Sydney Design Thinking) collaborated with IxDA Sydney to host another meetup to celebrate.

I got to talk about one of my favourite things: Regenerative Design & Innovation… for Happier Communities. How do we design for regeneration, be financially successful, and increase our wellbeing while we do it?

Sarah Cave and Will Farrier from WAVE shared some of their insights on the importance of ethics, equity, and responsibility in design – drawing on Will’s reflections on how to put people first in community care settings… and facilitated some audience breakout discussions.

Couldn’t make it or just want to relive it? You can watch it now.

Thanks to everyone who came and made it a fun night… and thanks again to Ruiwen /riˈænə/ Mo, Calista Christy Kartadinata, and the other volunteers for helping out tonight.

A huge thanks to Dr Munib Karavdic and the WAVE team for hosting this event! And thanks to my friends and collaborators Susan Wolfe and Verawaty Chan from IxDA Sydney.

Finally, our next SydDT is on Thursday, 12 October when Ben Crothers and Irma del Mundo will share their highlights from this year’s Good Design Awards as a couple of the judges. Thanks to Michelle Cabanela and the ThinkPlace team for hosting and sponsoring!

Meetup Announcement

Tuesday, 26 September 2023 @ 6pm. The Commons George Street, Sydney.

We’ve teamed up with our friends from IxDA Sydney to put on a meetup for World Interaction Design Day 2023: Ethics, Equity, +Responsibility. This is IxDA’s annual event where we come together as a united global community to show how interaction design improves the human condition. Grab your ticket now.

This year’s theme encompasses areas such as ethics in design, designing for accessibility, inclusive and responsible design, and anti-capitalist design. It focuses on the need to consider design’s impact on society and to create work that is equitable and responsible, all in service of advancing IxDA’s mission: improving the human condition by advancing the practice of Interaction Design.

Ben Pecotich from Dynamic4 will be talking about Regenerative Design & Innovation… for Happier Communities. The purpose of his talk is to help people who design, build, launch, and run product, service, and business ideas – and lead these teams – to design for regeneration, be financially successful, and increase our wellbeing while we do it.

Sara Cave and Will Farrier from WAVE will lead an activity on the importance of ethics, equity, and responsibility in design – drawing on Will’s reflections on how to put people first in community care settings.
