SydDT #93: Designing Resilient Business Models in a VUCA World with Michael Wilkens

SydDT #93: Designing Resilient Business Models in a VUCA World with Michael Wilkens

We were lucky to have Michael Wilkens from Strategyzer visiting from Denmark to speak at SydDT. He shared plenty of wisdom and insights on designing resilient business models in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) world.

So many nuggets of innovation gold including “successfully retiring” ideas that don’t have the evidence to continue, changing the revenue mix to increase predictability, and a risk/return portfolio model when exploring potential business models.

It was a massive turn out with standing room only… thanks to everyone who came and made it a fun night! Couldn’t make it or just want to relive it? Watch it now.

A huge thanks to you and your family Michael for coming and spending some time with us. It was awesome to meet you all.

Thanks to our sponsors and collaborators for this event… Michelle Cabanela from ThinkPlace, Stephen Summerhayes from Food Agility, Selena Griffith from Enactus Australia, and Dynamic4.

Our next SydDT is on 27 February… it’s our first design megameetup for 2024 in collaboration with EUX and CCX, which we’re now doing under the name Design Connection. The theme is The Intersection of Design, Digital & Public Media at the ABC. It’s been sold out for weeks with a massive waitlist, so if you haven’t got a ticket, you’ll need to keep an eye out for our next one… which is…

SydDT #95: International Women’s Day, Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress on 7 March. Kylie Mageropoulos has lined up an awesome panel with Esse Spadavecchia, Angela Meyer, and Sarah Heimeier. Grab your ticket before it sells out!

Meetup Announcement

Thursday, 22 February 2024 @ 6pm. ThinkPlace, Sydney

We’re lucky to have Michael Wilkens from Strategyzer visiting from Denmark. He’ll be sharing his thoughts on designing resilient business models in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) world. Come join us for some fun conversations with interesting people keen on design thinking and innovation.

The skills of innovation are more important and valuable than ever in these times of change and uncertainty. There’s a systematic approach that greatly increases the ROI of innovation and we’ll explore the tools and processes using real examples.

In innovation (and business development in general) we often aim for growth as a driver of value creation, however in a VUCA world the value of predictability increases. We’ll discuss how resilience as a strategy can be more valuable to a company than topline growth.
