Newsletter: What do you expect?

86% of leaders reported increased expectations from their teams, customers, investors, regulators, and others.

I’m doing some research with leaders who navigate complexity to lead, design, and deliver change. There’s been a great response, so the emerging patterns are reliable and based on plenty of data.

One of the questions is: how have the expectations of your teams, customers, investors, and regulators changed over the past three years?

67% have said they’re experiencing a dramatic increase in expectations – most of them specifically because talent and customer have more options and can amplify their voice, and there’s more scrutiny from investors and regulators.

19% said they’d increased a bit.

14% said there had been no change… and no one said expectations had decreased.

How are leaders feeling about this?

So far, the responses have ranged from the simply stated “I feel under pressure”…

The pragmatic “change is the constant. Best to keep an eye on the horizon and be ready to embrace new things”…

To the optimistic “I feel the changes have been good as they have promoted greater diversity and inclusion, greater awareness of sustainability and social impact as well as increased accountability and transparency”.

What are you experiencing and observing? How are you feeling?

The response that resonated with me because it’s what I experience – and it’s what I see in the people I work with:

“Tired sometimes. Excited sometimes. It can be hard to constantly need to reinvent and push harder and harder to meet everyone’s expectations.”

I’m curious to learn more about how you’re adapting to meet the rapidly shifting expectations of your teams, customers, investors, and regulators. I’ll present the findings from my research in a report. It might even evolve into my next book.

Join the waitlist for the report now to be the first to get it. When you join the waitlist, you’re also invited to complete the survey that takes ~5 minutes, and you can express interest in being interviewed.

There’s been a great response since I started in April… a huge thanks to the more than 80 people who’ve already shared their experience and insights.

More soon…

A blog post for you… very much aligned with increased and increasing expectations.

Adaptive Challenges

We live and work in a dynamic and adaptive world – full of dynamic and adaptive systems and people. Things are always changing.

How do we lead ourselves, our teams, our organisations when we face so much complexity?

How do we design, build, and launch our ideas when there’s so much uncertainty? So many possibilities and opportunities. So many risks to manage. A key thing we need to practice is recognising adaptive challenges and taking the right approach to meet them.

Brisbane Friends!

I’ll be in Brisbane 30 July-2 August and I’ve got some gaps in my calendar. If you’re around and keen to catch up, reply to this email and let’s sort something out 😃
