How’s things? I hope you’re having a fun week…
If you’ve read my social posts and blogs, seen me speak, checked out my book, or chatted with me… you know I talk about “regenerative”. A lot.
Everything I do is about helping accelerate the transition to more regenerative ways of living and doing business.
What’s that even mean?
To regenerate means to renew, refresh, revitalise… to change for the better.
Regeneration in Action
There are nested layers to this, and they need to be integrated for the health and performance of each layer individually and collectively.
We need to take action. What’s that look like for us personally, for teams and organisations, and for the communities (places, nature, and the economy) that we’re part of?
When we’re in a more regenerative mode our wellbeing, resilience, and relationships improve, we make better decisions and solve problems that matter to create meaningful value for all stakeholders. And we build momentum.
My simple theory for this regenerative change is:
When leaders and teams increase their wellbeing and build the skills to navigate complexity with confidence, clarity, and purpose…
They solve problems that matter for their teams, customers, investors, regulators, communities, and our planet…
This results in high-performing organisations that design, build, and launch business models, products, and services that are more regenerative. Solutions that customers and teams love, make money, and do great things for people and our planet… all while increasing wellbeing.
Nice in theory but how do you make that real?
The approach we take to regen at Dynamic4 is practical and applied. It focuses on strengths and building on what’s right – rather than dwelling on deficits. We help people have fun creating their purpose and happiness – without the guilt and existential dread.
There is urgency though… we need to rapidly transition to more regenerative ways of living and doing business.
Over the past 30+ years I’ve been leading, designing, and delivering strategic change in financial services, digital & tech, health & fitness, and building startups/social enterprises – in Australia, NZ, Asia, the UK, and Europe.
These years have been full of learning, failing, iterating, and adapting. And still are. I’m a designer and founder skilled at coaching people to learn through doing – building on real-world experience and current practice – not just theory.
During this time I’ve experimented and created an approach and framework that brings together the five key elements – that when put into action – develops successful leaders and teams who are more empathic, resilient, and engaged – and drives great performance and outcomes for all stakeholders.
This builds on and extends the approach I guide you through in my book Solve Problems That Matter.
I call this the Regenerative Leaders Framework.
Curious? Stay updated…
This is the first in a series where I’ll outline what the five integrated elements of the Regen Leaders Framework looks like in action. Click here to get the rest of the series as it comes out…

An event and a couple of blog posts for you…
SydDT #107/Design Connection #4: 2024 Reflection & Celebration
Thursday, 28 November will be our 16th and final SydDT for 2024. We’ll be reflecting on and celebrating the year that’s been. This will be a very interactive session with a focus on spending time with each other. A good chance to reconnect with the regulars in the community and welcome plenty of new people. New friends and old.
We’re doing this one as Design Connection #4… another in our design megameetup series with our friends from the CCX and EUX meetups. This continues our tradition of EOY megameetups since 2018
This event is brought to you by Atlassian and Dynamic4. Come join us for some fun conversations with interesting people in and around the design community. This will sell out fast… be quick 😃
What’s SydDT? Find out all about it with write-ups, photos, and recordings of our past meetups.
Build Empathy
Design thinking is built on empathy. It’s the bedrock on which all good design happens. It’s a word we use a lot, but what is it? In my Build Empathy blog post I cover what empathy is and the three types, the benefits of practicing empathy, and what it looks like in action.
SydDT #106/Design Connection #3: State of the Design Nation with Ben Crothers & Nila Rezaei
We celebrated all things design and reflected on the state of the design nation at SydDT #106 on 6 November. Ben Crothers and Nila Rezaei shared their highlights, observations, and insights on what they saw as a couple of the judges for this year’s Good Design Awards and some of the trends.
This has been an annual SydDT tradition since 2018 and it’s always a crowd favourite. This one was even bigger than usual with 220 people turning up for the fun. It was also another in our design megameetup series as Design Connection #3. Check out the full write-up, photos, and video.
Let’s Collaborate
At Dynamic4, we specialise in coaching, training, and working alongside leaders to solve problems that matter. With 30+ years in financial services, this is one of my happy places.
A key way we do this is by designing and delivering action learning experiences with masterclasses, workshops, innovation sprints, and leadership, design thinking & innovation programs.
We bring together design thinking, regenerative innovation, wellbeing, and purpose into an integrated practice.
These sessions build personal, team, and organisational capability to lead with confidence, clarity, and purpose:
🌿 Confidence to navigate complexity and solve problems that matter for your teams, customers, shareholders – and build momentum with more certainty and less risk while increasing your wellbeing
❤️ Clarity to empathically engage your stakeholders, make better decisions, and collaborate to create solutions that your teams and customers love, make money, and do great things for people and our planet
🎯 Purpose that drives progress on your goals and creates meaningful value that you’re proud of for all stakeholders – and build the relationships, workflows, rhythms, and habits for success
